In addition to Natan Sharansky's quote and reference to Abraham Lincoln's "Mystic Cords of Memory," the following have provided civilizations with important sayings that in their reasonablenesses influence much thought, infusing it with meaning. When applied and interpreted metaphorically, they even serve as tropes.
